July 10, 1947 – August 25, 2009On August 25, Tony LaDeaux died due to an illness. With his passing, Duluth lost an advocate who worked tirelessly for the victims of racism. He was the 2008 recipient of the MLK Holiday Committee “Justice for Peace” award and was the chair of the Duluth American Indian Commission’s Civilian Review Board committee. He frequently shared that his work was intended not just to benefit Indian people, or other people of color, but all who lived in Duluth. His presence on the hillside will be deeply missed.
